NYPD officer attacks cyclist

During last Friday night’s “Critical Mass” ride in New York:

Of course, the guy on the bike was reportedly arrested, held for 26 hours, and charged with assaulting an officer and resisting arrest. Since it’s pretty clear from the video that the NYPD officer went out of his way to get in front of the cyclist, then knock him off the bike, with no provocation, my theory is that he thought this was a great scheme for teaching those asshole critical mass riders a lesson — he would cause one of them to run into him, then arrest the rider for assault. Unfortunately, he did it so ineptly that the cyclist was going to easily avoid him, so the cop basically had to body-check the cyclist in order to make contact. He also apparently forgot that everything in the world is now being videotaped by somebody.
