You’ve probably heard about the so-called lost tribe of the Amazon that was photographed from a plane recently. You may have also heard that a lot of people suspect it’s some kind of a hoax. I haven’t read much about the debate, but coming across these photos today (a larger set of larger images than what I had seen a few days ago) gave me some real doubts. Don’t they have the aura of phoniness? For all I know they’re totally legitimate — and photos of a real lost tribe probably would have the aura of phoniness — but my bullshit detector is definitely twitching. Any gut feelings on the matter among my readers?
I guess the red body paint on the warriors and the black body paint on the figures believed to be women are not unusual for that region, and that’s definitely one of the things that looked weird to me in the photographs.
[Update 6/23: The tribe seems to be real, and it is true that they have had basically no contact with the developed world, although their existence has actually been known for decades. See more at this article in the Guardian of London.]
